Official Announcement of Candidacy for State Representative

Dear Residents of Stoneham and Winchester,

I am honored to announce my candidacy for State Representative for the 31st Middlesex District, proudly representing the communities of Stoneham and Winchester in the November 3rd, 2026, election.

My name is Stephen Ternullo—a longtime Stoneham resident, proud veteran of the United States Army, and dedicated community leader.  For years, I have served the town of Stoneham in a variety of roles. I have a history of advocating against tax increases and have been a strong proponent of government efficiency and much needed transparency.  I am a member of the Stoneham Veterans Committee and serve as Quartermaster of VFW Post 620 in Stoneham, standing proudly with those who have served. These experiences have deepened my understanding of many issues and have opened my eyes to how state policies directly impact communities.  This experience has strengthened my resolve to defend the shared values of Stoneham and Winchester. 

Professionally, I specialize in the building trades, with expertise in educational facility oversight and maintenance.  Personally, I am blessed to share life with my wonderful wife, Katie. Together, we are proud parents of four children: my son Stephen, my daughter Alyssa, and my stepdaughters, Emily and Samantha.  My decades of service as a Little League, youth hockey, and soccer coach, as well as my role as an elected board member for Stoneham Youth Hockey, reflect my belief that investing in our children is the cornerstone of any thriving community.

Our district faces significant challenges.  Skyrocketing costs of living make it increasingly difficult for families, seniors, and new residents to remain in Stoneham and Winchester.  From rising utilities and taxes to unaffordable housing the barriers to opportunity are out of reach for many.  Declining academic performance in our public schools is something that is deeply concerning to me because a quality public education is the pathway to financial independence and prosperity.

As a young father with small children, we were able to build a life here because it was affordable.  Today, that same dream is out of reach for too many.  I am running to change that trajectory and restore affordability, fairness, and opportunity for all.

As your State Representative, I pledge to:

• Secure adequate, fair funding and state resources so every child in Stoneham and Winchester has access to a world-class education.

• Relieve mandate burdens – Advocate for full state funding of mandates imposed on our schools, easing the tax burden on local residents.

• Support small businesses – Foster job creation and economic growth while reducing tax pressures on entrepreneurs.

• Expand access to healthcare – Ensure affordable healthcare, rehabilitation, and mental health services are available to all.

• Enhance public safety – Address crime and drug issues, especially in and around our schools.

• Lower utility costs – Fight for policies that make utilities more affordable for families and businesses.

• Honor voter voices – Support the overwhelming call to audit the state legislature for greater transparency and accountability.

• Prioritize veterans’ housing – Ensure that our veterans have safe, affordable housing as a top priority.

• Promote healthy eating in our schools – Expand access to free, nutritious school meals, partner with Massachusetts farms to bring fresh produce into cafeterias and reduce reliance on processed foods.

• Teach nutrition and healthy choices – Integrate nutrition education into school curricula, teaching children the importance of clean eating, healthy lifestyles, and making informed food choices that will benefit them for life.

My campaign is built on the shared values of fairness, affordability, opportunity, and community.  I am committed to listening to you, our neighbors, friends, and fellow residents, and working collaboratively to build a brighter future for the 31st Middlesex District.
